My name is Ruth Valentine. I started The White Chair in 2009, because I felt that traditional religious services no longer met the needs of many people.
I trained as a celebrant with Personal Ceremonies in Brighton, and Green Fuse in Devon. Since then I've conducted funerals in woodland burial sites, cemeteries and crematoriums, and memorial services in parks, by rivers and in hired halls. I've done baby-namings on roof terraces and in front rooms.
My background in advice work means I'm used to working with all kinds of people, in all kinds of challenging situations. I'm also a writer (novels, poetry and non-fiction); my writing skills help me compose ceremonies that suit the individual and the occasion.
